What have we taken to be central?

This work reveals the perceptual structure of the city by interrupting its point of visual concentration. Encasing a Times Square advertising screen in industrial aluminum laminate is not an attempt to obscure an image. It is an intervention that suspends the point at which attention converges. By replacing the luminous display with a silent aluminum plane, the intervention exposes how this concentration has been organizing perception in the city. This suspension makes visible what we have taken as the center of our attention.
This intervention operates in Times Square, where attention is continuously drawn and intensified.
