What do we believe we are seeing?

This work reveals the perceptual structure of the city through the removal of a single sign. Encasing the sign in industrial aluminum laminate is not intended to conceal the image. It is an intervention that temporarily suspends the way the image has been recognized.
By removing rather than adding, the work exposes what we believe we are seeing.
​
Brussels, a city where political authority and cultural imagery coexist, provides a particularly dense field in which such an intervention can reveal the symbolic structure of the city.
