a poetic monument: wrapping the trace of techo statue
bunny rogers’ techo statue once stood in the courtyard of palais populaire (deutsche bank), but after two years it was returned to the boros collection, leaving only an absence behind.
unaware of this, a proposal was submitted to wrap the absence left behind where the statue had stood. ironically, by the time of the proposal, the work had already disappeared.
by wrapping the void that remained, the project reintroduces the vanished monument as a spectral presence.
rather than preserving an object, it commemorates its absence and asks:
“can a monument be temporary?”
“how do we remember what is no longer there?”
the proposal suggests that a monument is not only the object itself, but also the time and space it once occupied.
