visual study for monument of refinement (time sculpture)
2025

3d rendering | proposed material: matte/satin finish stainless steel
A monument of refinement explores the tension between preservation and transformation, questioning the notion of permanence. Inspired by the whetstone—a tool of refinement—this work integrates a USB, bridging craftsmanship and digital technology. By evolving over time, it challenges the delicate balance between stability and change.
This sculptural intervention reinterprets monuments as ever-adapting structures. Its reflective stainless steel surface interacts with shifting light and seasonal conditions, fostering a dialogue between the monument, the audience, and the environment. Through this engagement, the work invites continuous reinterpretation rather than serving as a fixed entity.
Time shapes all things ― perceptions, relations, and objects.
Developed through research in the dolomites, the project investigates decomposition as an essential phase of transformation. Once a symbol of refinement, the structure now embraces fragmentation and instability. As it gradually dissolves into its surroundings, it challenges conventional ideas of permanence and stability, emphasizing refinement as an ongoing process shaped by time and interaction.
